Julia Ashley

Managing Director - C&C; Over 55s Housing and Care Lead - Aster Group

Julia Ashley joined C&C in July 2008 and has an MBA from the Open University.  Julia became Chief Executive on 1 April 2016, and Managing Director after C&C completed its merger with Aster in January 2022.

"I believe passionately that people aged over 55 deserve to live in elegant homes and vibrant communities and I very much value and enjoy the talent of our fantastic C&C staff, residents and professionals who work together to co-produce innovative new homes that that are adaptable for future needs.

"I had an early background in emergency and community care and housing and spent a period of my time delivering specialist services for people with dementia which I found incredibly rewarding. I have enjoyed challenging my own and others thinking about the perception of older age, developing in myself and others a new vision of age as a time of opportunity and achievement.

"At home, I love to cycle and keep fit and enjoy the privilege of travelling whenever I can."

Jo Teare

Chief Financial Officer

Jo joined C&C initially as Group Chief Financial Officer in January 2018.

Jo is a qualified Chartered Accountant with more than 15 years of experience in senior positions in construction and development and has worked for a number of recognised house builders including Fairview, Bovis and Barratt.

In his spare time, Jo devotes himself to his family and three children and participates in various sporting activities.

2. Jo Teare

Deb Thomas

Director of Development, London & Home Counties

Deb is director of development with overall responsibility for C&C’s development projects. She is supported by a team at C&C including two development directors, two development project managers and a development project officer.

Deb has worked with C&C since 2013, initially through the Dora House project, for which she was lead consultant while at Arup. She joined C&C as a consultant to the Development team in December 2016, becoming head of development in February 2018. Deb is a chartered civil engineer by profession and brings a wealth of experience in the construction industry to the role. She has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Dora House Redevelopment project, now Grace House, and is excited at seeing the building come to life on site.  She is looking forward to residents moving in later in the year.

Outside of work, Deb is a trustee of CTU Collective (a charity which provides workspace for startup businesses in Camden), and a trustee of Camden Highline (a project to provide a new public linear park on a disused section of railway track).  She is also involved with the local scout group.

3. Deb Thomas

Tim Michaelsen

Group Integration & Change Director

Qualified in People Management, Information Technology, a Chartered Fellow with the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (FCIPD), studied Strategic Management at the University of Cambridge's Judge Business School, Tim brings over 12 years of line HR Management experience. He is strategic and values-driven, able to see the big and small picture.

Tim joined C&C in 2019, initially as Head of People, focusing on driving a high performance culture across C&C. He identified the need to quickly develop our People technology which expanded his role as Head of People & HR Technology Systems. His passion for developing the organisation and investing in inspirational people is infectious. He has had great success in improving colleague retention, colleague experience, developing our People technology as well as facilitating a high-performing culture.

Most of the professional experience he’s garnered are from the Hospitality sector, an American Fast Food giant, the Health & Social Care sector and a British Retail giant. Tim enjoys developing teams, creating organisational environments and work systems where diverse teams love what they do and are delivering superior performance.

His approach has been to implement constant improvement in a calm, controlled, creative and caring way. He loves the diversity of thought and backgrounds to be found in C&C and he sees one of his passions as helping colleagues to outperform their potential – becoming the very best they can be – and empowered to deliver customer-centric services to our residents.

Tim is a fitness enthusiast, but a rubbish cook, an avid reader, but a couch potato when around his family. Tim loves time with his family.

Sam Scharf

Director of Housing and Customer Services

Sam joined C&C in September 2021. He oversees C&C’s sheltered housing and general needs schemes; ensuring excellent delivery of resident services, both through digital solutions and from scheme officers, repairs teams, and external contractors. Sam is also responsible for C&C’s Service Hub, which handles compliments, complaints and queries from our residents.

Sam previously worked for housing provider Orbit Group, most recently in the role of Director of Communities and Sustainability. He is a member of the board of advisors for the Centre for the New Midlands, and has focused on social investment in housing as part of a role for Big Society Capital.

Sam has held positions supporting government and large charities, and worked in the USA on election campaigns in 2008, including the Obama/Biden presidential campaign.
