Aids and Adaptations

Minor Adaptations

  • C&C can fit minor adaptations for you such as handrails and grab rails
  • They will cover the cost if the adaptation is relatively simple and less than £1,000
  • Minor adaptations will be arranged and completed within 20 days of your request unless the work is particularly complex

Major Adaptations

  • Major adaptations generally cost more than £1,000 and include fitting items such as stairlifts and level access showers
  • These adaptations can be paid for using a Disabled Facilities Grant

There are three stages to the process:

  • Referral to and assessment by an Occupational Therapist (3-4 months)
  • Application for and approval of Disabled Facilities Grant (3-4 months)
  • Completion of adaptation (1-2 months following funding approval)

Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs)

  • A DFG is a grant from the local council that helps with the cost of adaptations
  • The grant is means-tested so you may be required to contribute towards the cost, depending on your financial situation
  • C&C can help you complete a grant application form

  • If your property is unsuitable for a recommended adaptation, we will discuss other solutions with you
  • If your circumstances or your health condition changes you may apply again for an adaptation at a later date
