Sheltered housing
Sheltered housing refers to collection of buildings and sites, known as ‘schemes’, that are for residents aged 55 and over.
Schemes are a collection of properties, mostly studios/bedsits and one bedroom which are staffed for the safety and support of residents.
Our sheltered schemes are designed to enable independent living for the over 55s. Many schemes are staffed during working hours and will all have an emergency out of hours service. There are often communal indoor and outdoor areas and many schemes run trips and activities for residents. While scheme staff can be available for support and advice, sheltered housing residents are actively encouraged to live independent lives.
If you require advanced care in your later years, a care home may be more appropriate for you.
If you are over 55, are able to live independently and are in need of housing then this may be the right option for you. It's important to note that sheltered schemes are not care homes. Our staff are there to maintain the building and support you as appropriate, such as with sign posting to services and referrals to external agencies.
Applications for our sheltered housing schemes need to made to local authorities/council, where you will be added to their waiting list. You can also try to apply directly to us.
