On the 29th March 2018, C&C hosted its 5th Talk Show at Blackham House, Wimbledon. The hugely popular event was an opportunity for residents and staff to come together for a lively conversation with fascinating guests.
This year we welcomed Edwin Harland, Normal Plastow MBE and Anthony Wilkinson to the Talk Show covering a range of topics. Edwin Harland, an experienced Forensic Accountant shared entertaining accounts of his experiences tracking financial fraud across the world, including having to perform a citizen’s arrest in Nairobi. Edwin also treated the audience to a birthday speech in Russian!
Our second guest was Norman Plastow, a local historian and author who had in-depth knowledge of the Wimbledon and the surrounding areas. Norman discussed his latest book “Safe as Houses: Wimbledon at War 1939 – 1945”, which sparked a lot of interest amongst the audience those who had memories of the war. Norman also spoke about his involvement in the Wimbledon Museum and Wimbledon Windmill.
Our final guest was Anthony Wilkinson, the Festival Director at Wimbledon Music Festival. Anthony spoke about his life in music, which started with a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, that he turned down to attend university instead. After a number of years producing programmes for the BBC across the world (including Russia), Anthony spent 7 years in Hollywood working on films and TV shows. He also discussed of his campaign to build a concert hall in Wimbledon.
The Talk Show was a great success, and the audience thoroughly enjoyed our guests. Afterwards, the audience and guests mingled and socialised over light refreshments. Thank you to everyone made the event possible. A big thank you also goes to our Creative Arts co-ordinator Rachael Dinnage for organizing.
