Top tips to minimise food waste

07/08/2024

Our friends at Quids In! (An independent not-for-profit project providing tenants across the UK with advice and information around money and finances) recently shared some top tips on how to minimise food waste.

It’s important to understand the difference between best-before dates and use-by dates.

Best-before means the product might not taste its best if we eat it after that date.

Use-by dates are concerned with the safety of the product after that date has passed.

The simple sniff test is being championed as a way for us as consumers to check things like milk and yoghurt – if milk is off you should be able to smell it.

Did you know you can also check the freshness of eggs – if they are past their date you can dunk them in water to check if they’re still ok. A bad egg will float but a good one will sink.
