Colville Court sheltered scheme provides 19 self-contained one bedroom flats and one x two bedroom flat for older people aged 55+. Two of the flats are adapted for disabled people. New residents come to us as referrals from Richmond Council.
The two-floor scheme was purpose built in 1991, in the extensive gardens of another Central & Cecil scheme. It is situated in the sought-after residential area of Teddington, close to Bushy Park.
Residents particularly value the warm, friendly and active atmosphere at the scheme, and the lovely and peaceful surrounding area.
Colville Court has been a winner at the national EAC awards, voted for by residents, for the last three years, most recently winning gold in the 'Retirement Housing under 30 units' category.
Residents live independently in their own flats and can ask for support from the Scheme Manager if they need it. There is also an emergency call system to all flats.
The scheme’s communal facilities include:
- a reception area and office
- a lounge
- a shower room with a salon basin – used by the visiting hairdresser
- a laundry
- a guest room available for a reasonable charge
- a lift
- lovely gardens
- limited parking.
We employ cleaners and gardeners to service the shared areas and residents can also call our centralised repair service.
Our portfolio managers are responsible for the day-to-day running of our sheltered schemes, aiming to keep things running smoothly, with good team work, empathy and organisation. They also maintain links with outside agencies.
Colville Court is a particularly lively and friendly scheme. Most, but not all, of our current residents are in their 80s and 90s. As well as informal socialising, regular activities at Colville Court include:
- coffee mornings – in the summer, they take place in the garden
- hairdressing – residents make a real social event out of these weekly sessions
- resident-led art classes
- fortnightly film club events with afternoon tea
- fortnightly minibus trips out to lunch, shopping centres, Richmond Park, or the coast in summer
- monthly aromatherapy sessions
Various activities are provided by our Arts and Events service. These may take place off site.
We regularly hold roadshows and assemblies to allow for our residents to have an opportunity to communicate with us clearly and directly.
Situated on Park Road, Colville Court is five minutes’ walk to Teddington High Street.
Within a mile or two, Twickenham rugby ground, Kingston and Richmond Park are all easy to access. Residents also use the swimming pool in Teddington. Local churches include St Mary with St Alban (CofE) on Ferry Road and Sacred Heart Church (Catholic) on Kingston Road. Teddington War Memorial Hospital is a pleasant local hospital with a walk-in centre and the doctors’ surgery is in Park Road.
The scheme is a short walk to Twickenham mainline station, offering South West Trains routes to Reading, Windsor and Eton Riverside, or Waterloo via Richmond and Clapham Junction. There are also circular routes, one via Hounslow and another via Kingston and Wimbledon. The main local bus routes are: 281 (Hounslow to Tolworth), 285 (Heathrow Airport to Kingston), 481 (Kingston to West Middlesex Hospital), X26 (Heathrow Airport to West Croydon).
