The Oldfield Estate sheltered scheme provides 249 self-contained studio flats for older people aged 55+. Some of the flats are suitable for wheelchair users and other residents with reduced mobility. The scheme aims to support independent living.
The scheme was built in 1966 and is made up of three buildings: Jacqueline House (with seven floors), and Carole House and Marion House (each with six floors).
Fitzroy Road is still a largely Victorian residential street, in the popular Primrose Hill conservation area. Residents find the scheme a great place to live, especially as some enjoy views over the Hill. They also value its convenient location, with good shops and transport links.
Residents live independently in their own studio flats and can ask for support from staff if they need it. There is also an emergency call system to all flats.
The scheme’s communal facilities are on the ground floor in Jacqueline House. They include:
- a large communal lounge/dining room, opening onto a pleasant patio area on one side
- a communal kitchen
- a library/ IT suite
- a laundry
- toilets and disabled toilets
- staff offices
- a lobby
All the houses have lifts and there is a stairlift in the lounge. There are two guest rooms available for a reasonable charge. Residents can use the attractive patio garden between the three buildings. Oldfield Estate also has its own resident car park.
We employ cleaners and gardeners to service the shared areas of the three blocks and residents can also call on our centralised repair service. Our C&C Direct team are available for day-to-day repairs.
Our portfolio managers are responsible for the day-to-day running of our sheltered schemes, aiming to keep things running smoothly, with good team work, empathy and organisation. They also maintain links with outside agencies.
Alongside the Portfolio Manager, there are three full-time sheltered servce officers at the Oldfield Estate, whose job involves helping to manage the scheme, as well as providing support to residents so that they can continue to live independently.
New residents are provided with a tenancy pack, including their tenancy agreement and a resident’s handbook, outlining their rights and responsibilities. Our sheltered housing officers then work with each new resident to draw up an individual support plan.
Oldfield Estate residents organise their own tea afternoons and coffee mornings, run lively quiz nights and film shows.
They also take part in activities organised by their sheltered housing officers, our Arts & Events team. Some activities involve can take place off site.
We regularly hold roadshows, conferences and assemblies to allow for our residents to have an opportunity to communicate with us clearly and directly.
Oldfield Estate is situated close to the lovely open spaces of Primrose Hill and Regent’s Park, with London Zoo and the Regent’s Canal nearby.
The scheme is close to the shops and markets around Camden High Street and Camden Lock, which include a large branch of Sainsburys. There are plenty of restaurants and cafés in the area.
Fitzroy Road is also close to the church of St Mark’s, with other places of worship not far away. Cecil Sharp House, the headquarters of English Folk Dance and Song, is close to the scheme.
Transport in the area is good. Chalk Farm and Camden Town stations are both on the Northern Line. Near to the scheme there are bus stops for the 274 (Angel Islington to Lancaster Gate) and C2 (Parliament Hill Fields to Victoria) bus routes.
